Botcha Wants Legal Aid For Mopidevi
HYDERABAD:Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president Botcha Satyanarayana on Sunday kicked up a row by strongly pitching for legal aid to Mopidevi Venkataramana, the former Minister, who is currently lodged in jail in connection with land allotment to Vanpic project.
The Supreme Court had issued notices to six Ministers – Dharmana Prasada Rao, Kanna Lakshminarayana, J. Geetha Reddy, Sabitha Indra Reddy, Ponnala Lakshmaiah and M. Venkataramana – responding to a petition relating to the CBI probe into Kadapa MP Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy’s disproportionate assets case.
They had approved the controversial issue of 26 GOs, including that of Vanpic.
After initial hesitation, the government decided to bear the costs incurred by all, barring Venkataramana, in arguing their case before the apex court in an order issued on Saturday. In an informal chat with mediapersons, Mr. Satyanarayana on Sunday said it was not proper to leave out Venkataramana as it would send a wrong signal to people. He said he would write a letter, if need be, to Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy in a couple of days in this regard.
In fact Saturday’s order itself had turned controversial as it did not contain the name of Mr. Ponnala initially. A separate order in respect of Mr. Ponnala was issued later.
