Sudheeran Says Some Ministers No Good-Chandy Counters The View
The Congress leader V.M. Sudheeran and Chief Minister Oommen Chandy have crossed swords over the quality of the United Democratic Front (UDF) Cabinet and the efficiency of Ministers.
While Mr. Sudheeran fired the first salvo at a Youth Congress State camp here on Sunday by saying that though there were some really efficient Ministers in the Cabinet and the Chief Minister was working overtime, some in the Cabinet were no good.
Although the Chief Minister worked really hard, the people were not satisfied. He had no lack of respect or love for anyone, but some in the Cabinet had no clue about what was going on. Some were at the mercy of their personal staff and there had been instances of the personal staff giving instructions even in the presence of the Ministers, he said amid loud clapping from the Youth Congress delegates.
Responding to Mr. Sudheeran’s criticism while talking to reporters, Mr. Chandy said that he headed an efficient team and he was proud of the team.
His Cabinet colleagues took decisions in consultation with him. If there was any failure on anybody’s part, he too was responsible for it.
He had never had any opportunity to speak ill of anyone in the Cabinet till now. Nor had any of his Cabinet members spoken critically of him. Everybody in the Cabinet worked in total unity, Mr. Chandy said.
A new dimension was added to the spat when the Youth Congress leadership camp adopted a resolution calling for a code of conduct for the Ministers. Some of the constituents were trying to teach discipline to the Congress. The Congress must ensure that the coalition partners did not take advantage of the slender margin on which the UDF government survived, the resolution said.
